Update on the St John’s Vision Statement – March 2023

One of the best-known reggae songs in the world is ‘I can see clearly now the rain has gone’ by Johnny Nash.

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-shiny day
It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)
Sun-shiny day

This classic song speaks about new beginnings and fresh opportunities.  I feel that Johnny Nash’s classic song is in many regards a song for our times but with a slight change of lyrics ‘I can see clearly now, covid is gone’!

I recognise covid is still a reality in our midst, but I feel there is a real appetite amongst people in church to get on with the business of building God’s Kingdom.  To focus on vision and God’s plans for our future.

At St John’s we have identified two priorities for us as a church.

  1. Refreshing and relaunching our small group structure – Growth Groups (also known as housegroups) and MicroGroups.
  2. Considering carefully and prayerfully our potential involvement in the Fit for Mission initiative launched by the Diocese of Liverpool.

In March 2023 we held a number of vision events to update our church family with all that is happening.  Thank you to all who attended these events. Don’t worry if you were not able to attend as you can now watch one of the sessions from the comfort of your home on YouTube!

Our Vision Statement

St John’s vision statement is ‘Knowing, growing in and sharing Jesus’ love in Burscough.’ This vision is central to the life of the church and shapes and influences all that we do.

Our Mission Action Plan (previously known as the Five Year Plan) indicates the priorities that we believe God has given us for the next phase of our life as church. We have committed to:

Becoming a Resourcing Church serving our local area, deanery and diocese. We will generously share the blessings we have received from God with others.

Growing in number. We want to see more people come to know Jesus

Growing in spiritual depth. We will actively seek to help people grow in their relationship with the Lord.

Growing in service. We will seek to be a blessing to the communities we minister to through acts of compassionate service.

Planting churches. We are committed to a programme of creating new Christian communities to build God’s Kingdom.

Keeping Jesus at the centre of everything we do.
