The covid pandemic has been difficult for Girlguiding as some volunteers had to step away from their roles due to changes in personal circumstances. However Girlguiding in Burscough is still active and we are loving our activities. We had a lot of our meetings virtually during the last 18 months, but are now back Face to Face.

Rainbows (ages 5 – 7) meet on Tuesdays 5 – 6pm. Brownies (ages 7 – 10) meet on Tuesdays 6.15 – 7.30pm and Wednesdays 6 – 7.15pm. Guides (ages 10 – 14) meet on Mondays 7.30 – 9pm.

Our Girlguiding programme is based on 6 themes – Know Myself, Express myself, Be Well, Have Adventures, Take Action and Skills for my Future.

The girls work through skill builders, interest badges and activities at different stages in each theme throughout their journey in Girlguiding.

This term our Wednesday Brownies have been working on their ‘Lead’ skill builder, part of the Skills for my Future section. We have been looking at what makes a good leader, how to lead and giving girls confidence to achieve their goals. We have also been doing bonfire craft and food craft. We will be doing some Christmas craft in December and will be preparing some Christmas songs to entertain the residents of Richmond Court. We’re hoping to start booking some trips out soon.

If you want to know more about Girlguiding or about volunteering please visit our website www.girlguiding.org.uk Volunteering doesn’t have to be a weekly commitment or a Face to Face one, but girls gain so much from being a part of Girlguiding, so it’s a privilege to volunteer and make a difference.
