This harvest we will be providing support to those in poverty:
- Close to home with donations of basic groceries to the Foodbank
- Further away with financial donations to the Tearfund Harvest Appeal
Harvest is celebrated at Crabtree St Andrews on Sunday 5th October, and at St John’s on Sunday 12th October (with Peter Dawson from Tearfund speaking at all 3 services) & Tuesday 14th October.
Tearfund Harvest Appeal
What if the answer to poverty isn’t found in a far off place, but right at home? This Harvest, by supporting Tearfund, will you help plant seeds of transformation to end poverty? The funds will go towards the Tearfund Transforming Community Project which is about equipping and supporting churches to lead to long-term change, and developing lasting solutions to poverty.
The region in Nepal where Kiddi lives has been severely hit by the climate crisis, causing floods and landslides. This has devastated families like Kiddi’s. Crops have been washed away and essential services have been destroyed – including the water supply in Kiddi’s village, which has made life more unbearable. Many have had to travel to India to find work and live apart from their families.
Life for Kiddi was a constant battle to provide her family with enough food and nutrition. ‘I didn’t grow much before. I only had a few small lands where I planted just enough for (the) household,’ Kiddi told us.
But Tearfund’s Transforming Communities training in her village planted seeds of transformation and helped her to grow a future free from poverty.

The Skelmersdale & District Foodbank (Together with the Trussell Trust)

No one in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why the foodbank provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. Locally the foodbank operates from Burscough Methodist Church on Thursday mornings from 10am to 11.30am. They offer so many things at the foodbank, not just food parcels but also meat vouchers, fresh fruit and veg, help with heating bills, pantry referrals, CA welfare and debt advice, the list is endless! If you, or anyone you know needs help and support then tell them to pop along.
You can also help the Foodbank by volunteering your time to support them in a number of different ways.
